Early Life Professional Career Role in Politics Awards

Janet LaBreck is an advocate and motivational speaker for women with disabilities after being diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) also known as Rod Cone Dystrophy after a rigorous two years of going to doctors. Janet was born into a family that relocated concisely in 1959 to Great Barrington, Massachusetts from Mount Dora, Florida for both family distance and significant employment opportunities. LaBreck's Mother had been employed by Valley View Nursing Home for 10 Years and General Electric for 25 years. LaBreck was the second born in a family with her firstborn sister Angie. LaBreck's siblings include (In Order of Oldest to youngest) Angelina Babbs, Janet LaBreck, Cornell Babbs, Donald Babbs, Kimberly Babbs, Tikki Babbs however Donald Babbs sadly perished in February of 2019. LaBreck had started her Professional Career in 1985 as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist for the Massachusetts Commission of the Blind concisely after a lot of effort and hard work being put into her already great work she had been promoted to Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. Concisely she had been Cited By President Barack Obama as Commissioner of the Rehabilitation Services Administration within the Department of Education this role includes not only being an Ambassador of the Agency's Mission Our mission — to provide leadership and resources to assist state and other agencies in providing vocational rehabilitation (VR) and other services to individuals with disabilities to maximize their employment, independence and integration into the community and the competitive labor market but also includes, leading the agencies responsible for providing vocational rehabilitation services (VR) to individuals with disabilities to maximize their employment, independence and integration into the community and workforce.


LaBreck’s legacy throughout her professional career and personal life is reflected in her commitment to reforming policies and implementing practices that leverage partnerships with business and key stakeholders resulting in an equal system that resembles our community by promoting inclusion and diversity in the workforce in addition to streamlining the way the Vocational Rehabilitation. The program operates in order to shape the nation’s employment and training system into one that emphasizes performance accountability, transparency, and innovation. LaBreck’s vision to transform how RSA developed and awarded formula and discretionary grants successfully lead to improving outcomes for all job seekers, workers, and employers particularly for those individuals who have the greatest barriers to employment by offering enhanced access and clear pathways to good jobs earning family-sustaining wages.


LaBreck is also on the Board of Trustees for both The Perkins School for the Blind and the National Braille Press. LaBreck is also President of Janet L. LaBreck Consulting, LLC and Principal Partner with Synergy Consulting Partners, LLC. LaBreck cites being appointed by Former President Barack Obama as Commissioner of the RSA within the Department of Education as her Greatest Achievement because of the Advocacy Opportunities.


LaBreck Earned her Bachelors of Arts in Human Services from the University of Massachusetts Boston Then pursued a Masters of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Springfield College
