[edit]For almost a year, I've been working with TheClimateProject.Org, where I worked with Al Gore, to mentor presenters and make presentations explaining the cause of Global Warming. While at Ford, I did some analysis, trend and statistical process charts regarding Global Warming.
I work for SavageGeckos.

My Background as an Editor
[edit]- For years, I have been a geneologist, historian and biographer.
- My extensive geneology project combined the original works of Whipple, McCulloch, Frick and Knight. It includes 1000s of people and goes back to about 3000BC or about 120 generations. An early version is available on Whipple Website:[1]
- I also have a collection of archived historical documents dating back to about 1620 and often refer directly to those sources for reference, quote and content.
- I decided to become an editor for Wikipedia when I did a search for my grandfather Whip Jones the founder of Aspen Highlands. When a page came up for Whip Jones the soap opera character (on the show only seven months Bold and the Beautiful in 2002), I decided that something had to be corrected. So I moved that page to Whip Jones III (B&B) and started my first biography (copying the existing content from the Aspen Highlands page and modifying it) page under the user name SavageGecko ~ a userid which I have abandoned, in favor of this one, because of a suggestion from an experienced editor. DGG thought it looked too much like a web address.
- The Whip Jones page led to spawned more biography pages and some disambiguation pages. Then I learned about the frustrating Speedy Delete and the WP:AfD process, where we debated whether or not I was a relative, whether or not my grandfather was notable, whether or not the article was sourced, whether or not it had a neutral point of view, whether or not I had a conflict of interest, whether or not is was SPAM, whether or not it was FAKE. It was frustrating and addicted me to Wikipedia, and made me hate it and certain practices, at the same time. I think the Whip Jones article stands on it's own merit. The lesson I learned was to finish your pages in your User space and then copy a finished product up to the article entry you want to create.
My Editing
[edit]- I try to do three things in anything I write or edit:
- Strict accuracy to the period from which it was written I prefer the original source over subsequent rewrites and edits and summaries of it.
- Color and flavor, through quotes and interesting tangents, I will try to bring the subjects' 'soul' through to the reader. I would like the reader to get a real feel for the person. To hear their voice in the document.
- Balanced view, we all have our naysayers, its important to recognize that, but in my opinion giving too much weight to a lonely negative viewpoint, just to ensure a WP:NPOV, isn't neutral or balanced. And may not be fair to the individual subject. Its just not statistically relevant, 100 people say this, 1 guy says that... that's 1%
