AdAway is an open source ad blocking application for Android using the hosts file.
Removal from Google Play
[edit]In March 2013 AdAway and other ad blocking software including Adblock Plus were removed from Google Play for violating section 4.4 of the Play Store Developer Distribution Agreement.[3][4] As a result, the developer moved all distribution to F-Droid. As of December 2013, AdAway was the second most downloaded app on F-Droid behind the client itself.[5]
