User:Aswick/Digital Media Server
Appearance
A Digital media server is a home entertainment device having the capabilities of both a Home theater media player and a digital media receiver and is capable of syncing or streaming digital media to a home theater system.
A DMS includes media storage, network connectivity, and a user interface to play the stored media (music, pictures, video) through home theater connections. A DMS can function with or without either network connectivity or use of the media storage depending on the needs of the user.
The DMS is a type of media server. In contrast, a media center or HTPC is a converted computer, not necessarily a device.
