N.Sree Mukundan was born in 1947, at Varkala, Vettoor, Thiruvananthapuram. as the elder son of R.M Narayanan and N Devaki. N. Sree Mukundan had four siblings namely N.Sreedevi, N.Sreekumar, N.Shailaja, N.Sharika. He did his schooling at S.N High School Neduganda Varkala and collegeing at S.N College Kollam. At his school/college days onwards he was an athlete. He was best at throw events especially in short put and weight lifting. He joined Kerala Police as Sub Inspector in the year 1969 (8th Batch of Kerala Police) He worked as Sub Inspector in Chalakudi, Peroorkada, Kattakada, Tvpm Fort etc. In 1979 he was promoted as Circle Inspector of Police, he worked as Circle Inspector in very sensitive Police stations like Vizhinjam, Poonthura, Venjaramoodu Nemom, Kazhakootam etc. In 1989 he was promoted as Deputy Superintendent of Police. He worked as ACP Contonment, ACP Shangumugham, ACP Fort, DySP Intelligence Special Branch Headquarters.
He worked as Sub Inspector, Circle Inspector and Deputy Superintendent of Police in one of the most important/sensitive Police Station in the State ie. Contonment Police Station which has the jurisdiction of Government Secretariat. He had the commanding power to tackle any Mob / Mass protests. This was well appreciated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister's and Home Minister's of the respective period.
His service was invitable for maintaining law and order whenever there was a violation of the same. His efficiency in tackling law and order situations was well appreciated by his colleagues, by general public and the Government. His efficiency in handling law and order situations was proved to hilt in 'Chala Bazar Burning Case' and 'Vizhinjam Roit Case'. His efficiency in investigation was well proved in cases like Edamalayar Corruption case, Lakshmi Murder case etc.
He was awarded 35 meritorious service entiries in his 28 years of service.
He was preferred as the 'First' Police Officer by the head of the Police Department and the Government if there was any serious law and order problem in the State.
He was an expert at horse riding and had several times forefronted in the Mounted Police in Padmanabha Swamy Temple Festival in Thiruvananthapuram, which is regarded as one of the most important festival in Southern Kerala.
He was also an athlete, his event was shot put and he held the record for short put in Kerala Police games for almost 14 years.
He has also acted as Veluthambi Dalawa in the documentary directed by the renowned Director R. Sukumaran for the Public Relations Department of Kerala State.
His demise was on 06/11/1997, due cardiac arrest. At that time also he showed his courage by himself driving to hospital when he felt chest pain.
His wife Smt. Sandhya Rani passed away on 1990 itself. He and his wife is survived by one son and two daughters. Aswanth Mukundan (Son) formerly an Advocate, now working in Kerala Police Department, at Police Headquarters as clerical staff. Arya Mukundan (Daughter) and Archa Mukundan (Daughter).
