The 8th General Junta was the meeting of the General Junta, the parliament of the Principality of Asturias, with the membership determined by the results of the regional election held on 22 May 2011. The congress met for the first time on 15 June 2011.

Election

The 8th Asturian regional election was held on 22 May 2011. Despite being the most elected party, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) was not the one with most seats gained. Asturias Forum (FAC), founded as a schism of the Asturion People's Party (PP), won in its first contested election ever and took the helm of the government.

History

The new parliament met for the first time on 15 June 2011 and after two rounds, PP took the presidency for the first time in 12 years as Fernando Goñi (PP) was elected with the support of PSOE, that was the only part that did not run any candidate.
