SSUNS, or Secondary Schools' United Nations Symposium, is Canada's largest and most prestigious high-school level Model United Nations conference. The conference was created in 1993 and is hosted by McGill University, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (however, the conference is not affiliated or sponsored by the University). The conference is a branch of the International Relations' Student Association of McGill, or IRSAM, a non-profit corporation which also hosts McMUN, the McGill Delegations Team, the Junior Peacekeepers, the McGill International Review (MIR), and the External ECOSOC delegations.
Each year, over 1400 delegates and 400 student staffers from McGill University assemble in downton Montreal to partake in 4 days of conference proceedings, usually in early to mid November. The conference has typically been hosted at the Hotel Bonaventure, but will be hosted in Le Centre Sheraton in the 2017 year, during the 25th anniversary of the conference. Past speakers at SSUNS include Elizabeth Dallaire and Patrick Brennan. Past and current sponsors include Concordia University, Via Rail, Durham College, etc.
The 2017 SSUNS conference will take place from Thursday, November 16th to Sunday, November 19th 2017 and will feature new additions such as Delegate Handbags, expanded tours, etc.
This year's Secretariat includes: Dexter Docherty, Secretary-General Anuradha Mallik, Chargee D'Affaires Meghan Keenan, USG Committees Gordon Milne, USG Operations Sonia Ionescu, USG IT Khyati Ghandi, USG Finance Natasha Chatur, Director of Public Relations Hena Guha, Deputy Chargee D'Affaires Ronan Murphy, D-USG of GA & ECOSOCs Gretel Kahn, D-USG of SAs Nicole Arski, D-USG of Crisis Ashton Mathias, Deputy Director of PR Dany Morcos, Deputy Director of PR
