Abdullah bin Hamad Al Shuailli

Abdullah bin Hamad Al Shuailli, born in 1949, is a retired Omani security officer and one of the most prominent figures in establishing and modernizing the Omani Internal Security Service. His distinguished career spanned almost four decades, during which he played a vital role in protecting the Sultanate's security and stability.


Early Life and Education

Abdullah bin Hamad Al Shuailli obtained a degree in advanced security studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies (DAMOD) in London. This universally known institution is one of the world's most prestigious defense academic institutions.

Career

Al Shuailli joined Oman’s Internal Security Service (ISS) on February 1, 1974, where he is considered one of the agency’s founding members. Over the years, he contributed significantly to developing the agency’s structure, strategies, and operational effectiveness.

In recognition of his achievements, he was appointed as Deputy Head of the Internal Security Service by a Royal Decree in September 1992. His expertise and leadership culminated in his promotion to the rank of Major General on April 4, 1999, strengthening his position in the security hierarchy of Oman’s Sultanate.

During the 1970s, Al Shuailli played a critical role in eliminating the “Popular Front for the Liberation of Oman,” a Marxist insurgency that sought to destabilize the country. His intelligence analysis and information contributed to successfully restoring peace in the country and dismantling the movement that intended to target the country's national security.

Awards and Achievements

Throughout his career, Al Shuailli received many accolades for his service, including:

- The Sultan Qaboos Medal (Third Class) in 1995, recognizing his exceptional contributions.

- The Medal of Resilience (Second Class) in 2010, for his leadership in addressing security challenges.

Retirement

After nearly 40 years of service, Major General Abdullah bin Hamad Al Shuaili retired on April 1, 2013, but his long experience did not end there, he continued to give security and political lectures to security agencies and military colleges, including the Command and Staff College and the National Defense College.

Literary Contributions

In addition to his military career, Al Shuailli is an accomplished author. His works reflect his deep understanding of national and intellectual issues:

- Loyalty: was published in 2010 and deals with the concepts of national loyalty.

- intellectual Deviation: was published in 2023. In this book, he discussed the intellectual and cultural reasons for the Arab world's delay in catching up with the world's civilizational progress.
