Airgo Records is an independent (US) record label started in 2004 by Jimmy Greco. The label is based from Greco’s home in Whitestone, Queens.
A drummer, Greco received a drum programming credit on Celine Dion’s “Misled” single, and his music career began to take off. Writing hip-hop jingles for TV[1], he signed a publishing deal and began writing songs with Jennifer Lopez, Santana, salsa star Frankie Negrón and others. He has two Number One Latin hits with Jerry Rivera’s “Quiero” and India’s “Seduce Me,” which led to a 2003 Grammy nomination in the Tropical Song of the Year category.
Greco began Airgo as a web based label, feeling that there was a void in the music industry that he could fill. “I made the shift of wanting to go and get the artist signed on a major label and potentially have the majors drop the ball. Because someone always gets fired or held up through politics so I wanted to really do my own thing, take the bull by the horns, use the web as an amazing vehicle to promote and market my whole team of writers, producers and artists.” [2]
The name Airgo came from Greco’s wife, singer Karmine Alers, who suggested ERGO from one of Greco’s favorite quotes “co·gi·to, er·go sum,” I think, therefore I am. “I was originally looking for words that convey a new way of thinking, or approaching the music business, doing it via the web, digital, over the air waves. Somehow, Ergo became Airgo.” (bio interview, 2010).
After putting out albums by Alers (who, at the time, was touring as "Mimi" in the Broadway musical Rent), Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Jai Rodriguez, and others, Airgo recently received renewed attention with the 2009 release of Grammy nominated singer Frankie Negrón’s first pop record, “Independence Day," with Jon Pareles of the New York Times highlighting the CD in his Fall record release roundup. Airgo are currently in the process of re-releasing “Independence Day” adding on Negrón’s performance of the Kara DioGuardi/David Cook penned song “No Reply,” mixed by Tom Lord-Alge.
