User:Askari Mark
Welcome to my home page! My primary areas of expertise include fixed-wing military aircraft, national air forces, and military history in general. I also have expertise in numismatics and medallic sculpture (chiefly Art Nouveau and Art Deco). If I can be of assistance, please post a note on my talk page.
Cordially,

Manual of Style
[edit]Layout
Lead section
Wikipedia:Guide to layout#Lead section
- Avoid links in the summary — users should be encouraged to read the summary, and the article, before jumping elsewhere. In addition, the colored highlighting of the links may mislead some users into thinking these are especially important points.
Headings
Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings)
- Avoid special characters in headings, such as an ampersand (&), a plus sign (+), curly braces ({}), or square braces ([]). In place of the ampersand, use the word "and" unless the ampersand is part of a formal name.
- Avoid changing section headings — that will break section-specific links from within the article or from other articles.
- If you link to a section, leave an editor's note to remind others that the section title is linked. List the names of the linking articles, so when the title needs changing, others can fix the links more easily. For example: <!-- This section is linked from source#section --> .
- If you refer to a section without linking, italicize the section name.
- If you link to a section, do not italicize the section name, unless it otherwise requires italics (for example, if it is the title of a book).

- For each footnote:

within text. - To set up footnote for more than one use:

, then
thereafter. - To list footnotes:
<references/>
- However, if there are a large number of references listed, it is preferable to use
<div class=references-small><references/></div>
Tagging unsourced material
[edit]If an article needs references but you are unable to find them yourself, you can tag the article with the templates Unreferenced, Not verified, or Primarysources. It's often useful to indicate specific statements that need references by placing fact ("citation needed") after the sentence, but be careful not to overuse these tags. Don't be inappropriately cautious about removing unsourced material.
To summarize the use of in line tags for unsourced or poorly sourced material:
- If it is doubtful but not harmful to the whole article, use the fact tag to ask for source verification, but remember to go back and remove the claim if no source is produced within a reasonable time.
- If it is doubtful and harmful, you should remove it from the article; you may want to move it to the talk page and ask for a source, unless you regard it is as very harmful or absurd, in which case it shouldn't be posted to a talk page either. Use your common sense.
All unsourced and poorly sourced contentious material about living persons should be removed from articles and talk pages immediately. It should not be tagged. See Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and Wikipedia:Libel.
Links
[edit]- For advice about what to link and what not to link, see
- Wikipedia:Make only links relevant to the context (avoiding overlinking),
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links)#Internal links, and
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Date formatting.
- Useful links that are not mentioned in the prose paragraphs can be added to the "See also" section.
- Linkifying
- Internal wikilink – topic
- External link – [http address] (Turns into a footnote only, unless address followed by " anchortext".)
- Categories – :Category:Category name
- Images – :Image:abcde.jpg
- Templates – name
- Subst:ing
- When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use instead of test. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.
- Main article linking — target article
