Nabakanta Barua (a.k.a. Ekhud Kokaideu) was one of the most renowned and respested poets of Assam.He was born in Nagaon (then Nowgong) district of Assam .He started writting poems in his early schooling days at Nagaon Govt.Boys' H.S. school.Later he wrote some immorlal poems like Polokh,Monot Porene Arundhati,Norokot Don Juan,Crussot Don Juan etc.

His contribution to modern and contemporary Assamese iterature include 11 poem collections,5 fictions and several lyrics.He also write a science fiction book named O-podartho(anti matter).

Winner of the prestigious Padmabhusan award in 1976,Assam velly literary award in 1993,he got the Sahitya Akademi for his novel Kokadeutar Har in the year 1975.He became the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha's Bishwanath Chariali convention (1990).

His brother Debakanta barua is also known for his iteraturary works and wrote one of the most famous assamese poem collection Sagar Dekhisa.

He passed away on 07-14-2002.
