Fantasy film — direction and genre of the art of cinematography, which can be characterized by a higher level of conditionality. Images, events and entourage of fantastic films are often intentionally removed from everyday reality — this can be done both to achieve specific artistic objectives, to achieve which the creators of the film is more convenient by means of fiction than by means of realistic cinema, and just for the entertainment of the viewer (the latter is characteristic primarily for genre cinema). The nature of the conditionality depends on the specific direction or genre — science fiction, fantasy, horror film, phantasmagoria, but they can all be broadly understood as kinofantastiki. There is also a narrower view of film fantasy as a mass purely commercial genre of cinema; according to this view, film fantasy is not, for example, "Space Odyssey 2001". This article uses a broad understanding of film fantasy, which allows to give a more complete picture of the subject.
The evolution of film fantasy largely followed the evolution of much more dynamically developing fiction. However, cinema from the very beginning had the property of visual, which written literature is almost devoid. The moving image is perceived by the viewer as authentic, existing here and now, and the feeling of authenticity does not depend on how fantastic the action unfolding on the screen. This feature of the viewer's perception of cinema acquired special significance after the appearance of special effects.
In XXI century film fantasy is one of the most popular and profitable genres of cinema. Sci-Fi movies like Avatar, Star Wars: the force Awakens", and "Jurassic World" make up the majority of the highest-grossing blockbusters in history.
In film fantasy and related fields there are nominations in 14 awards: the horror award "Black feather" (video), the award "Hugo" (movies and TV series), the readers of the magazine "Science Fiction Chronicle", Lord Ruthven Award, Bram Stoker award, nebula, British fantasy award, Balrog, Hall of fame of science fiction and fantasy, German science fiction award, Japanese award, Russian "Sigma-f", 12 nominations in the award "Results of the year" from the magazine "World of Fiction" and the award "Parses" (video format).
Communication of fantasy and mythology
[edit]Fantasy actively uses the mythology of the technical era. Mythology is one of the main structural components of film fantasy, it plays a more important role than the actual ideas that came from science. Danish philosopher and science fiction writer Per Scheld in his book "Androids, humanoids and other folklore monsters" noted this as the difference between science fiction and science fiction literature, which still retains a connection with science. Maria Galina noticed that the reliance on ancient myphological images and archetypes typical for most mass genre fantasy than elitist art-house. For example, the ocean of Solaris does not rely on any folklore representations, and this Tarkovsky's movie did not become part of a social context of an era while the name of other fantastic Andrey Arsenyevich's movie — the Stalker turned on the one hand — into a name nominal, and with another — into the sold brand of mass culture. This can be explained by the fact that the hostile space that can be appeased through rituals such as the throwing of nuts is an archetypal image, quite traditional for mythology.

Neo-gothic
[edit]In the 1990s, took shape and gained strength a completely new direction in science fiction cinema, which began to be called "neo-Gothic" ("new Gothic"). The films of this direction is typically used motives and ambiance of the classic Gothic, however sophisticated the skill of the operators and artists have created on the screen of a brand new aesthetic space that cannot be related to the old Gothic movies, gravitated to the visual austerity and Noir. In the neo-Gothic joined ornate fantasy illustration of Frazetta and Wiluna, fine photos glamour, artistic finds of the authors paropanka and modern technology to create special effects.

Neo-Gothic, interacting with the growing traditions of comic book adaptations, soon gave rise to another direction, for which the typical Gothic motifs are combined with modern (mostly) entourage. The interaction of these esthetics first effectively demonstrated "Interview with a vampire", and the most striking examples of such films are the films "blade" (Blade, 1998) and "Another world" (Underworld, 2003).
Virtuality
[edit]To the extent that, as occurred in the 1980's, cyberpunk was fixed and became the trend in literary fiction and mass culture generally, the interest in his figurative series began to show and the cinema. First among big-budget films made in the framework of this direction, was the film by Robert Longo's "johnny mnemonic" (1995), based on the eponymous short story classics of cyberpunk William Gibson. Due to a number of compromise and half-hearted decisions dictated by the commercial nature of the project, the film, unlike the original story, was not radical enough and was criticized by fans of cyberpunk and very restrained perceived by the mass audience. However, now this film is recognized as a significant milestone in the genre of cinema, and its impact on subsequent more successful projects is noticeable at least in the fact that it played a major role Keanu Reeves was subsequently invited to the role of Neo in the film trilogy "Matrix".
