Buga-buga mountain is one of the fascinating sites in the Leyte and declared as a historical landmark located at the heart of Villaba, Leyte. During the Japanese occupation in Leyte (1942-1945), the place was known as Mt. Canquipot and was heavily involved in the tragic history of the Second World War. Serves as one of the strategic locations of the Japanese imperial soldiers, military camps are built in and around the towering landmark. Many soldiers, American, Japanese as well as defenseless Filipinos had lost their lives during the intensive crossfire in Leyte island and the most gruesome fight between two forces happened here in the last stronghold (December 1944 - April 1945) of Japanese soldiers led by General Suzuki.
