Gallery 44 for Contemporary Photography, commonly known as Gallery 44, is an artist-run centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, featuring various works of Canadian photography.
History
[edit]Gallery 44 was founded by a collective of photographic artists in 1979 as Photo 44.[1] The centre was later renamed Gallery 44 in 1981. It began as a communal darkroom and studio in a former coffin factory at 109 Niagara Street in Toronto. In 1980, Photo 44 made part of the space into an exhibition area and presented its first exhibition of artwork.
