Mohammad Ali Talpur ... Mohammad Ali Talpur is a well known contemporary Pakistani artist. He is considered the only minimalist artist in the Pakistan because of his linear drawings. He is teaching at National College of Arts[1] and works at his studio in Lahore. His works has been exhibiting in national and international art galleries like Art & Public gallery, XVA gallery and Finsbury Park , England, Shanghai art fair, 2007, Dubai Art Fair, 2008 and Hong Kong art fair, 2008.
Life
[edit]Mohammad Ali Talpur was born in 1976 in Hyderabad, Sindh[2]. He spent his childhood in his home town Hyderabad then he moved to Lahore. He got his BFA degree in 1998 from the National College of Arts, Lahore.[3] Now he lives and works in Lahore.
Art career
[edit]His work passed through various phases to get the unique identity. He is known for his linear drawings, these drawings reflect the magical quality that a viewer can not resist to pass through the inner essence of visual pleasure. He creates drawings like poetry by arranging the cluster of lines on paper and deliberately states "art without content" which interpret the existence of life.
Talpur's presence and acceptance in our art world is a sign that we are still able to enjoy the essence of art on a sensory level.[4]
Besides its internal quality and inherent calm, the work suggests something significant in our context. It is the long forgotten notion of art being a stimulus for senses rather than serving the cause of 'higher' ideas or ideologies. Talpur's consistency (occasionally changing into single line drawings -- which started with a bird, and lately are inspired from the movement of a fish in two works from the present exhibition) is a courageous move in order to spare him from chewed-up subjects and predictable political positions.[5]
