That's me on the right, Armysurveyor, waving to you over the Ethiopian highlands.
I am a retired civil engineer and my background is in mapping and cartography. I originally came to Wikipedia with the intention of writing an article about a U.S. Army mapping operation in Africa. In the course of doing so, I naturally wound up wikilinking to and reading a number of articles on subjects related to mapping and cartography. I edited a number of those articles because I found them to be weak or lacking. I also found myself writing new articles on this subject matter in areas that I believe are notable. So for now I have dedicated myself to expanding and improving Wikipedia in my area of expertise, i.e., mapping, topographic surveying, cartography, photogrammetry, geographic information systems, et al.
