Club career

[edit]

Mnembwe City

[edit]

Born in Dar es salaam, Tabata, Ariri is a product of the Mnembwe City youth academy. On 9 August 2016, aged 15 years, he made his debut in a Mbuzi Cup first round match against Zimbili at Zimbili Shule, playing the full 120 minutes of a 2–0 victory. And he managed to score one goal.[3] He became the club's youngest ever player, breaking an 27-year-old record set by Barnaba Nzwaga, and being named man of the match.[4][5][6] A week later, he made his league debut in a 1–0 home defeat against Kinyerezi Town in League Two.[7]

Kinota

[edit]

On 1 July 2017, Charles signed a contract with Tanzania Second Division League club Kinota. The two clubs had entered negotiations over a compensation fee for the player in an attempt to reach a fee that both found acceptable for the then 16-year-old. Yet, in November 2017, Mnembwe City chairman Baba Azal said that, whilst there was still a positive relationship between the two clubs, there was also a "massive disparity" in both clubs' valuation of the player. It is set to go to a tribunal, with a date yet to be set.[8]

On 20 September, Charles made his debut for Chelsea in an Azam Cup third round match against Kids, coming on in the 55th minute for Frank. And managed to score one goal.[9] Doing so made him the first player born in the 2000s to play for the Kinota senior team. At 17 years and six days old, he also became the youngest player to debut for the Blues in over ten years.[10] On 12 December, he made his Tanzania Second Divison League debut for Kinota, coming on as a substitute against Twiga Town in the 80th minute. And he scored a goal.[11]
