Yogesh Chander Modi
[edit]Yogesh Chander Modi (Y.C. Modi) is a 1984 Indian Police Service officer of the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre. He is currently the Director-General of the National Investigation Agency. He was appointed to the post in September 2017 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and formally took charge from Sharad Kumar in October 2017.[1] [2] [3]
Background and Education
[edit]Modi was born in Jind, Haryana. He holds a L.LB from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Career
[edit]Modi joined the Indian Police Service in 1984. After completing his training, he served in various capacities with Meghalaya Police including as Additional Director General, Law & Order. He served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of around 10 years in two stints from 2002-2010 and 2015-2017, where he handled special crime and economic offences besides anti-corruption cases.[4][5][6]
Modi was also a part of the Supreme Court appointed Gujarat Riots Special Investigation Team where he supervised the investigation of the Gulbarg Society, Naroda Gam and Naroda Patiya massacre cases.[7]
Awards and Recognition
[edit]Modi was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2001 and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2008.[8]
