Verner had met with a tribe known as the Baschelel and had found Ota Benga who was held captive by them.
- I thought the name of the slave traders' tribe was necessary to show the involvement of other Africans within the business slave trade. Many of the captured slaves were prisoners from tribal wars within the area. [1]
Mr. Hornaday, director of the Bronx zoo, initially hired Benga to use as help in maintaining animal habitats. However, people took more notice of Benga more than the animals at the zoo, eventually making Hornaday create an exhibition featuring Benga.
- The article jumps to Benga being part of the zoo as an exhibit, making it seem that it was Hornaday's initial interest to feature Benga as a zoo exhibit.
