The Early Grade Reading and Mathematics Initiative, formerly known as the Early Grade Reading and Mathematics Project (RAMP), is a five-year educational initiative of the Jordanian Ministry of Education that aims to improve the reading and mathematics performance of all students from kindergarten (KG2) to third grade at all public schools in Jordan. The $48 million initiative, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Department for International Development (DFID), is implemented by RTI International. The imitative was launched officially on 28 April 2015 by Queen Rania Al-Abdullah and will end on 31 December 2019.[1][2][3][4]
Background
[edit]As part of its effort to enhance the learning outcomes among early-grade students, the Ministry of Education in Jordan conducted a national survey in 2012 to measure the second and third graders' performance levels in reading and mathematics. The results showed evident "lack of foundational skills" in both subjects, which prompted the ministry to adopt a one-year intervention program implemented by RTI International and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).[5][6] Upon the completion of the intervention, another national survey was conducted in 2014 to see whether there was any improvement in the students' performance in the two subjects.
