Celebration of Craftsmanship

[edit]

Betty Norbury is perhaps best known for her promotion of British furniture designer makers. She founded "A Celebration of Craftsmanship" the annual exhibition held in August at the Thirlestaine Long Gallery, Cheltenham College, Cheltenham.[1] The first exhibition was in 1990 and it soon became the largest selling venue for bespoke furniture in the UK. In 2009 Norbury sold the brand to furniture maker Jason Heap.

Norbury is the author of 'British Craftsmanship in Wood', a collection of 450 examples of the finest handmade woodwork in the UK in 1990, 'Furniture for the 21st Century', a collection of superb work from thirty-six eminent designer makers - 1999, 'Bespoke' an illustrated guide to some of the best furniture makers in the UK - 2006, 'Promotion and Marketing for Crafts' An excellent guide to marketing high-end, hand-made products.
