André Alporter Biography

André Alporter was an innovator with Teleprompter Cable Television in Oakland, California; one of the first cable systems on the West Coast. As a Production Coordinator, Andre created programs and developed promotions for the launch of Home Box Office (HBO) television. He developed the Local Origination Production Department, and successfully produced a variety of award winning television on air promotional programs that increased program viewers. A graduate of California College of Arts and Crafts, were he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Arts/Television.

      Andre worked for the Alameda Publishing Company. He managed the marketing and distribution of four publications throughout California and the United States western region. His creative skills in developing and implementing successful marketing promotions lead the company to being one of the largest distributed African American publications in the nation.  For three years, he worked in the Creative Service Department for Neo-Life Company of America, a national product company where he served as the production coordinator for the company’s Monthly sales magazine and their bi-monthly newsletter.  
     André went to work building the marketing strategy for his second cable TV station on the West Cost.   As Marketing Manager for Storer Broadcasting Company, André successfully marketed on air promotional campaigns that provided the company with a successfully highly penetrated market.  He then went on to become the Director of Programming for Storer Broadcasting Company.  He developed several original programs titled: Teen Scene, You the Consumer, Health Tips, In Special Interest and live telethons associated with the Muscular Dystrophy Association titled: “500 Steps for MDA”.  The man who carried a piano on his back 500 steps to the top of Lombard Street in San Francisco; the worlds’ most crookest street.  Five years later, André went to work for Capital Cities/ABC. He created cross promotions programs and spots for the launch of network affiliates for the Western Region. André also created an ABC special on the Olympic Torch.   


    He worked for Telecommunication Incorporate better known as TCI. While employed as Marketing Manager, André was responsible for the marketing materials for all media. He organized Premium Channel Premiers for ShowTime Networks, The Movie Channel and the Disney Channel. coordinated all service contracts with the cities hotels and multiple dwelling facilities. After Becoming activity involved with the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame as Co-Chairman of Publicity and Promotions, Andrés' worked with Special Exhibits and Education for the Oakland Museum. He produced traveling exhibits that reflect Kaiser Corporation working with the cities and communities they called home. 
    André moved to Southern California in 1984 where he took on the position as CCN Production Supervisor, for the city of Compton.  There, he regulated the development of Continental Cablevision’s Public Access and Lease Access Channel development for public use. Due to budgets cuts, the position was not funded the following year. Continental Cablevision, the nations last major cable company built in America, hired Alporter to supervise there new production facilities at their Los Angeles operation; André created a network operation of programs that won recognition through the country. Winning ACE Awards, Renaissance Awards with its diverse programming. 
    André has served on the Viewers Advisory Council for NBC affiliate in San Francisco, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Foundation for Community Service Cable Television and continues to work with Special Exhibits and Education with the Oakland Museum and The California African American Museum.  André has worked as a Technical Director of television Broadcast for Keystone Communications, GlobeCast, Fox Sports Network Origination and Production for both National and International programming.  He is inspired to expand his creative career with the development of the new multi-media technology in a competitive market place. André has a well-rounded background Media Specialist which includes skills in coordinating all phases of production and variety of marketing and promotions. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Alliance of Black Entertainment Technicians (ABET) and is a member of the Organization of Black Screen writers. (OBS).

Trained personnel in the operation of the (HMC). Oversaw broadcast operation of The Hallmark Entertainment Network, G4-Network and TV Games Network. Assured quality control over broadcast content.

Experience in television production from graphic arts producer to videographer, writer, editor and producer of audio/visual promotional material. Efficiently operate workflow of TV broadcast control room during live production. Encouraged shifts to prepare programming beyond the schedule to avoid discrepancies.
