Sunset Strip is an upcoming documentary film directed by Hans Fjellestad that details the lurid history of the Sunset Strip from the 1930s to the 1990s through a series of interviews from musicians, actors, comedians, mobsters, and others prominent on the Sunset Strip at the time.
Overview
[edit]The documentary is framed around an extensive series of interviews with influential members of the sunset strip community. The interviewees featured come from a variety of different eras including the Mickey Cohen mob era in the 1940s and 1950s featuring Cohen's top enforcer X. The film also explores the first rave of rock and roll coinciding with the 1960s counterculture revolution featuring interviews from Alice Cooper, Lou Adler, Peter Fonda and others. The film also touches on the subsequent punk rock then glam rock movements with interviews from Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe) and members from X and Ratt.
Several comedians including Dan Aykroyd, Tom Arnold, and Richard Lewis tell stories about other comedians, actors, and musicians they rubbed shoulders with while performing at the Comedy Store located on the strip.
Many second generation stars of parents famous for their antics on the Sunset Strip talk about their own experiences growing up in and around the same venues. The list includes candid interviews from Kelly Osbourne, Jack Osbourne, Sophia Coppola, and Paris Hilton.
Production
[edit]The film was shot in 38 days beginning on June 25th, 2010 filming between 4 and 5 interviews per day with additional interviews shot in early 2011.[1] The interview segments were shot entirely on the Red One in and around the Sunset Strip area of Los Angeles. One of the segments featuring an interview with Paris Hilton inside a police cruiser caused widespread media attention after false reports came out stating the actress had been arrested.
