The location of the bombings

Two bombings occurred in Foggia on 2 and 16 January 2020. The first was an attempt on a Vigilante's life that failed, damaging 7 cars (including the Vigilante's). The second was an attempt on another person's, a "key trial" witness', life which also failed. It is widely believed the Sacra Corona Unita (SCU) were the perpetrators of the bomb attacks.^[1]

Incidents

On 2 January 2020, a Vigilante's car (along with 6 others), were damaged in a bomb attack which was aimed at murdering the Vigilante. On 16 January 2020, a bomb was detonated with the intent of killing a key trial witness. The detonation damaged an elderly's home.^[1]

Aftermath

The attempts on the Vigilante's and witness' life prompted the Anti-Mafia group, Libera, to organize a protest of 20,000 people to march through the city.^[1]

Motive

The Christian Vigilante was a witness in a major trial against alleged mobsters, according to local police reports. The other victim was also a witness in the same trial. The bombings came on the heels of the year’s first murder, when a 50-year old was shot dead in his car by drive-by shooters on scooters. ^[1]
