Overview
[edit]Amethe was born in a small town in Southwest Florida, in the United States, in late 1984. As a college student, she works to acquire a PhD in English and plans to teach as a career. Currently working on her campus as a computer technician and library assistant, she has a bit of competency in the fields of Technology, Literature, English Composition, and Education. In the more mundane realm, Amethe is a science fiction and role-playing enthusiast who is often involved in ventures involving virtual worlds, and world design.
Programming
[edit]Having began her collegiate career as a Computer Science major, and maintained a constant interest in technology and software development, Amethe has amassed a small history of programming projects and accomplishments. Most of her work surrounds the Internet radio station where she sits as an administrator. She is versed in Python and Perl and has used both in a production environment, while she practices C, PHP, and Ruby as a hobby. A fan of simplicity over elegance, her style often reflects the effort to get the job done in as few steps as possible, even if it sacrifices non-critical functionality.
Virtual Worlds
[edit]Amethe is actively involved in the development of online virtual worlds and has been for quite some time. Beginning in 2000, she assisted in the development of a legal player-run server for the online RPG Graal. Eventually rising to head administratorship of her server in 2003, she soon parted ways with the project for personal reasons.
After retiring from that server, Amethe took up MUD and MUCK coding as a hobby. Proficient with the MUD code bases MERC and SMAUG, she has been a builder and administrator on two MUDs, neither of which survived until their public launch date. Her more recent activity centers on non-combat oriented textual worlds and she is the co-Head Wizard of a start-up MUSH she has temporarily labeled "Asylum". Asylum is set to launch publicly sometime in July.
English Composition
[edit]Seeking a degree in English, on the Composition track, Amethe is very interested in writing, debate, and rhetoric. An avid writer, she seeks to share some of her insight on the writing process and the meta-cognition that takes place while one pens their thoughts. Having a far-reaching goal of establishing a set of protocols and rules for proper discourse online, she has established what she calls the Proper Internet English Project, though it has gone nowhere as of late.
