Pineapple Juice

Pineapple juice is the fruit juice extracted from pineapples. Under the Canadian Food and Drug Regulations of The Food and Drugs Act of Canada, pineapple juice is considered a food additive that may be used as a food enzyme.[1] The single-strength pineapple juice additive can only be permitted via the source of a good manufacturing practice in respect to use of the pineapples, Ananas comosus and Ananas bracteatus.[2] In terms of labelling requirements, pineapple juice has a set list that must be fulfilled before being sold to the consumer market by the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and Regulations.[3]

Under the Food and Drug Regulations Act of Canada, pineapple juice may contain a sweetening ingredient in its dry form, a Class II preservative, vitamin C, amylase, cellulase and pectinase.[4] When the purpose of pineapple juice is to serve as an anti-foaming agent, its use is permitted only that it follows the regulation for 10 p.p.m of dimethylpolysiloxane.[5]
