Secretary Senate of Pakistan is the highest ranking officer in the Senate Secretariat[1] with the status of the Federal Secretary as per the Senate Services Act of 2017[2]. The position holder is a Grade 22 officer appointed by the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan and is considered as one of the most senior government official in the country.
Duties and Responsibilities
[edit]Secretary Senate is the administrative and functional head of the Secretariat. All communication, orders or reports, authorized by the Chairman are issued under the signature of the Secretary. Similarly, all communication by the members, including notices of Bills, questions, motions or resolutions are addressed to the Secretary and received by him. He is also by virtue of his office the Secretary of all committees of the House and maintains record of the committee debates and discussions [3]. The Secretary also acts as a sanctioned Member on the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Studies (PIPS)[4]. The official duties of the Secretary also include to act as a delegate/representative of the Senate on various national and international forums which include United Nations, Inter-Parliamentary Union and Asian Parliamentary Assembly to name a few.
