History of the Order

[edit]

In the year 2000, H.R.H. Prince Jorge de Bagration decided to revise the dynastical Order of Saint Queen Tamar and the Order of the Eagle of Georgia.

He considered that another award was needed in order to acknowledge those actions done by monarchists who supported the royal cause in Georgia. At first, he ordered some designs to be created in order to find a nice insignia for the Order. But some time later, for political reasons, Prince Jorge posponed sine die the creation of the award.

In 2009, his son, H.R.H. Prince David Bagration of Mukhrani decided to honor his father's memory reviving this idea. He choosed a different design, which enhalted the Georgian identity of the award.

The creation Decree was published in the webpage of the Royal House, and consists in two articles, the first describing the merits required to be awarded the Order and the second describing the insignia.

The insignia consists of a silver sheet, with a slightly curved, white enamel outlined, red patée cross. In the center, a circle holding the Georgian flag, and the royal crown in gold within a blue circle above. And on each of the intersections of the cross' arms, 7 silver strips.
