Article Evaluation

[edit]

Nessa Carey:

[edit]
  • Information was relevant to the scientist overall, however some of the word choices and quotations left an implicated bias. The piece read more like a short essay than an article.
  • The section about her printed works summarizes the books but focuses heavily on the reviews rather than the content.
  • Most information about her work is described through the book section of the page. There is little about what she has done outside of the books. Describes schooling but not research beyond.
  • Many of the sources are publications directly from Carey. Very little is about her research, and one article I was linked to was something she wrote for the Huffington Psot, here she discusses her woes about the extinction of a small invertebrate. The piece was very biased, and I saw little in the wiki article about it other than the fact that she produces things for the popular press
  • The sources seem up to date, but the sources used could be better, or at least how they were utilized could be better
  • The editing was taken over primarily by a user JulieMay in 2017 but recieved pointers about the structure from Chiswick chap that ided in deleting extraneous information.
  • Structure of talk page is OG editor, then May taking over, then pointers from Chap with comments from May sprinkled in.
  • The article is part of multiple wiki projects including biology, UK, medicine, genetics, and science/academia.
  • It is an example of a good article for the women scientists project and has a plus symbol by the heading
  • The project and wiki formatting is still relatively new to me so it's difficult to make comparisons to each part of the discussion. The editing process is a bit odd but it makes sense if wiki is to stay an open platform
  • Question: Is there more information on what she is currently doing in the field besides publishing books?
  • I'm going to be honest; the very thought of leaving a comment or question where anybody can see leaves me so, so anxious. You may dock points if seen fit, but I will not be posting in the talk section for now. Apologies
