About Me
[edit]I am an editor in Latin American politics and history, violence and its effects, immigration, human rights, international work
interested in migration, human rights, law, and economic development.
An article I am interested in is this article about femicides in Cd. Juarez. My mom is from there and I visit a lot so I have a personal connection. Additionally, the article has a lot of issues and warnings at the top about questions over its neutrality, factual accuracy, lends undue weight to ideas, and needs an update. I think it would be a really good fix up project.
Another article I’m interested in is to create a new page about a very famous neighborhood in the city of Medellín, Colombia. The parent article would be the Wikipedia article about Medellín itself but the article talks about Comuna 13 for about two paragraphs, and is missing a link to find out more about this neighborhood that has such a rich history. It would be about the history of the neighborhood and what it looks like right now.
Comuna 13 originally was made up by immigrants, and it had a long period of history where it was controlled by revolutionary guerilla groups. Here is where the PJHC approach comes in because the Colombian government under Uribe made raids against the neighborhood trying to shut down the resistance groups and drug trade there, in turn killing a lot of innocent people, the police and military would also really profile any young person who was from there and looked like a revolutionary. If they had a tattoo or long hair or earrings or how they dressed they would be profiled. The neighborhood has bounced back and is strongly based on art, graffiti, performances, and is very lively today for tourism and guides to tell its history.
I have a strong interest in it as I have visited and Latin American politics and crime interests me, as well as I think it's a great undercovered story.
