NCR E&M (Engineering and Manufacturing) Wichita was a division of NCR Corporation that was a major force in the creation of the SCSI standard.
History
[edit]- 1972 Division founded.
- 1974 Division occupies newly-built office building in Northeast Wichita
- 1981 E&M Wichita is instrumental in creating the SCSI standard.
- 1983 E&M Wichita releases the first SCSI Chip.
- 1991 NCR Corporation purchased by AT&T, renamed to AT&T Global Information Solutions
- 1994 AT&T GIS sells E&M Wichita, together with divisions in Fort Collins, Colorado and Utrecht, the Netherlands to Hyundai. The three divisions become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hundai Electronics (now Hynix).
- 1997 The Asian Economic Crisis strikes; Hyundai is forced to sell Symbios.
- 1998 Adaptec attempts to purchase Symbios Logic but is prevented by the Federal Trade Commission, which invokes the Hart-Scott-Rodino act, claiming the combined company would have a near-monopoly on SCSI host adapter boards. Three days after the sale is called off, LSI Corporation purchases the company.
- 2004 LSI Corporation begins plans to spin off the former E&M Wichita division as Engenio Corporation but aborts the plans after the Initial Public Offering offers come in below expectations.
- 2011 NetApp announces it will buy the external disk storage division of LSI Logic, with the former E&M Wichita forming the largest single site involved in the sale.
