To improve on her stub I plan to add more information about her personal life as mother/wife, the incident she had with a police officer that inspired her to write her book, and her life after her book, how her family dealt with the controversy and her time in Turkey

· On decemeber 6^th 1955 the “Panthermantel affair” took place. In which Iris von roten who was stopped by police officers at 2am while on the way to her analyst. The police officers not believing that she was a lawyer took her to the police station where she was interrogated upon her refusal to comply with their questions. She later claimed that she had been arrested because she had been wearing trousers and thus the police has mistaken her for a prostitute. Feeling discriminated against, Iris went to the news in order to open a dialogue about women’s right. This incident in part inspired her to write her controversial book “Frauen im Laufgitter”.

· Her book “Frauen im Laufgitter” evoked a negative reaction from men and women alike. Men saw her as man-hating and mocked her while the women of Switzerland saw her as a radical, and blamed her for the losing vote on womens suffrage. They believed in gradual change and saw her as far too extreme.

· After the negative reception of her book, she left for turkey. Not in an attempt to run from the backlash as many believed but rather seeing an opportunity to fufill a childhood dream of travel. Once in turkey, she thoroughly enjoyed herself, being able to ignore traditional gender roles she did as she pleased.
