James Iheakanwa (born November 9, 1987), better known by his stage name B Wise, is an Australian rapper from Liverpool, Sydney, Australia. Wise is from a culturally mixed background with an Australian mother and Nigerian father. B Wise was first known musically for his time with Afro-Aussie rap pioneers K1 (Konnected as 1) Best known for their songs One of the same (straight outta Liverpool) & Where you wanna go.[1] Over the course of his career he has released 5 independent mixtapes and 1 EP, 2 mixtapes with K1 and an EP. Since going solo Wise has released 3 mixtapes - A Word to The Wise" (2010), The Benchman Vol.1 (2012) & The Benchman Vol.2 (2013). B Wise is still yet to release his own debut EP or Album. However, in 2013 Wise released his critically acclaimed single Long Neck Brown Paper Bag on itunes and Triple j which peaked at #11 on the unearthed hip hop charts and #102 overall genres..[2]
Early life
[edit]B Wise was born November 9, 1987 in Camperdown Sydney NSW. Wise is the eldest of 3 children (two younger sisters) [3] and spent his early childhood in Sydney until his parents were relocated to Central NSW for work of which he spent his first few years of elementary school bouncing between small towns Gulargambone and Coonamble. During this period Wise's father was also conducting business overseas in West Africa of which lead Wise to spend over 6 months in Port harcourt, Nigeria where he continued his elementary education.
In the summer of 1997 Wise describes when he returned to Sydney, Australia with his family and continued schooling in Chester Hill North Public for a year before finally moving to Liverpool attending St Therese in Miller and High school at Good Samaritan Hoxton Park. After Graduating High school Wise started to dabble in music as a pass time while he entered the work force. However, in 2008 he decided to take music more serious and turn it into a full time occupation. As a back up plan and to help him understand the 'business' side of music he enrolled in the University of Western Sydney of where he is soon to Graduate with a major of Marketing. [4]
Biography
[edit]Since landing on the Australian music scene in 2012, Wise has created a significant buzz for himself in such a short period of time. Some would accredit this to his former years experience with hip hop group K1 where others have made testament to his basic ability to "Just stand out from the pack with an individual talent to hold an audience and deliver a style of Australian hip hop that's easily his own" Shekudo-func.blogspot.com.au[5] Since breaking on to the scene Wise has released two successful online mixtapes (The Benchman vols 1 & 2) along with an array of single song releases that saw his total amounts of downloads served peak just over 3,550 at the end of 2013
Past accomplishments include being featured on the worlds most popular urban website, Worldstarhiphop.com and most recently he was nominated and won the outstanding performer award from the Celebrate Afro Australian Awards held at parliament house in Canberra. His developed stage presence and live experience has seen him go on to support a string of International and domestic acts along with headlining shows in his hometown of Sydney.[6]
