The Special Investigations Unit Act is the law of Ontario, Canada which governs the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). The SIU is the civilian agency of the Government of Ontario that investigates incidents involving police forces in Ontario. The act was a watershed moment in Ontario criminal law, implementing civilian oversight of police actions and civilian complaints. Previously, investigations had been handled by the police forces themselves.
