Ajeet Singh Nain is an Indian Scientist working in the field of Agricultural meteorology. He is professor Agrometeorology and Director Research at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India.

Education and Carrier

He did his primary and secondary education from Schools of Moradabad, Meerut and Bulandshahr. He did his under-graduation from Amar Singh PG College Lakhaoti, Bulandshahr and master from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India. He did doctorate from Space Application Center (SAC), ISRO, Ahmedabad under the guidance of Dr V.K. Dadhwal, a renowned scientist in the field of geospatial technology in agriculture. Dr Nain was the recipient of prestigious ISRO Junior Research Fellowship from 1998 to 2003. Dr Nain also received coveted advance research fellowship of DAAD Germany, where he did research on integration of remote sensing with crop simulation model as visiting scientist. Dr Nain Joined Indira Gandhi Agriculture University as Assistant Professor in the year 2003 and served until 2008. Thereafter, he joined Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India as Associate Professor, Agrometeorology. He rose to the position of professor in the year 2014 and became head of department of Agrometeorology in the year 2015. He was then selected as Director Research in the year 2020.

Notable Administrative work

Dr Nain is known for bringing administrative reforms in research ecosystem of GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. He brought transparency, efficiency, monitorability and accountability in the system. He anchored the development of state of the art Pant E-office in the University and transformed physical file processing system to paperless system. He brought administrative changes in the functioning of Directorate of Research by creating the 6 positions of Joint Directors of Research: Joint Director National Agriculture Research System (NARS), Joint Director Farmers' Research and Training Need Programme (FRTP), Joint Director Institutional Collaboration (IC), Joint Director Intellectual Property Management (IPM), Joint Direct Administration and Joint Director State Policy Research (SPR). He also introduced new concept of Research School, which is meant for focusing on a thematic area of research by involving an inter-disciplinary team of scientists drawn from different disciplines and students of different degree programs. The first research school was established in the year 2022 for focusing on the issues related to hill development. The name of research school is General Bipin Rawat Research School for Hill Development.

Awards and Honors

Dr Nain is recipient of ISRO Fellowship, DAAD Advanced Research Fellowship, NABARD Chair, Young Scientist Award by Society of Plant Research, Young Scientist Award by Association of Agrometeorologists, India and Fellow of Association of Agrometeorologists, India. He has been Vice President of Association of Agrometeorologists in India from 2015-2017 and currently a member of FICCI Task Force on Climate Change. He was also convener of the task force for developing State Level Action Plan on Climate Change in Agriculture for Uttarakhand State.
