Week 10 Activity -

Featured Article - The Third of May 1808 This is an extremely well-written article and fulfills criteria to a high standard. It is part of three Wikipedia projects, Wikiproject Visual Arts, Wikiproject Military History and Wikiproject Spain and has achieved FA status in each. The article was able to reach this status as it fulfils the good article criteria. Firstly, the article is very well written, using clear and concise language while maintaining a high degree of detail and information. The article is further very well referenced, including a range of sources. This ensures the information it presents is verifiable. Furthermore, the article is broad in its coverage and has seven subsections which are, Background, The painting (Description, The Disasters of War and Iconography and invention), Provenance, Sources, and Legacy. Therefore, the article manages to provide important contextual as well as descriptive and analytical information. Moreover, the article is both neutral and stable this likely comes as a result of the wide information and reference base. The author has ensured to maintain a balanced tone throughout the entirety of the article. The balanced nature of the article is further illustrated by the stability of article edits and contributions, ie. it has not attracted an edit war. Finally, the article includes thirteen images, which are all correctly referenced. This adds to the descriptive elements of the article and ensures that the reader can understand the references being made. The article is of an extremely high standard and does not require improvement.

Poorly Written Article - Sunnhordlands Kommunistblad

Well written: The existing writing is clear and concise, but could be improved with a greater depth of information surrounding the background and nature of the newspaper. The spelling and grammar of the article are correct, but the overall article could be expanded to give the audience a vaster range of information surrounding the time in which the newspaper was written, as well as information about the audience of the newspaper. The sections of the article could be improved, for example, the lead section could explain the importance of the newspaper in its time, and why it was created and for whom. The layout is correct, however lacks sufficient sections to suitably inform the audience about the newspaper.

Verifiable: This article does include a reference list however the references need to be reliable, not using other Wikipedia pages information.

Broad in its coverage: This article does include some history on the newspaper but could be improved through further research that provides more information surrounding the newspaper, and its importance.

Neutral: The page is non-biased, but could include more information about readers in neutral terms.

Stable: The page is stable with no ongoing edit wars occurring in the talk page.

Illustrated: The page includes no images relating to the newspaper and hence could be improved by using images to improve the knowledge of the audience.

Where was the source published? The source is published on BBC, which is a well-known broadcasting company that is dependable.

Is the information within the source independently verifiable? The source is independently verifiable because the information that the article is based on can be found in numerous other trustworthy articles.

Context

Age of source relative to topic – The source was written on the 25th of June, 2012 based on an event that occurred on the 23-24th of June in 2012, so the age is reliable to the topic.  

Intent of information, targeted audience: young adults, and music enthusiasts who are interested in music festivals

Content

Does the source omit important details and overrepresent others? The source provides an equal discussion of Rihanna’s performance at the music festival as well as the festival in general. 

Is the information fact or opinion? (This doesn’t necessarily disqualify the source from use but does mark against objectivity) – The information in the article is fact, as there are many sources that confirm Rihanna performed at the end of the Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend festival, and opened on a giant Sphinx.

Style and structure of content. The article is structured as a news report.

Why is this source important to the article? This source is important to the Wikipedia article as it confirms the fact that Rihanna opened her performance on a giant Sphinx

Week 4 - Activity 1: Telchur

Things that could be done to improve the Stub-class: Adding more citations that support the information in each paragraph, using more reliable sources to support claims, removing ambiguous claims "is thought to have" and more information could be included to create equal subsections.

·     Well-written: This article is well-written as it is clear and informative, providing sufficient information for each section.

·     Comprehensive: The article is inclusive of all needed and information provided about the sculpture

·     Well-researched: The notes section is very comprehensive, with 83 citations directing readers on where they can find more information and the information provided on the subject. The bibliography includes 5 reliable sources, where more information can be found on the sculpture and where the information used in the article has been found.

·     Neutral: Provides criticisms and the well-received features of the structure, without providing an opinion on what the author(s) think of the structure

·     Stable: The article is fairly stable in that the content does not change from day-to-day with the last edit being done on the 28th of March 2018 and there is no evidence of edit-wars.

·     Style guidelines:

o  A lead: The lead section for Cloud Gate provides important information that is related to the subject and what is to come in the following subsections. It provides an overview, as well as some of the key features of the sculpture.

o  Appropriate structure: The article consists of numerous sections that are all included under proper headings, in an ordered system.

o  Consistent citations: This page includes coherent citations that follow the footnote structure, which clearly has numbers, which will take readers to the correct citation they are looking for.

·     Media: The article includes 5 images that are appropriate to explaining and showing the structure, these images have concise captions underneath them explaining to readers what the image is.

·     Length: The page focuses on the information required to understand the sculpture without providing an unreasonable amount of information and uses the correct summary style.

·     The article uses the style in which Encyclopedias’ are written with the contents outlined underneath appropriate headings
