The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations (FUN) is a country, consisting of 10 islands, in the Western part of Oceania. It extends from the coast of present-day Australia and Papua New Guinea to 180 degrees west of the Greenwich Meridian (International Date Line) and southward to Tasmania, covering 14.5 million square kilometers (5.6 million square miles) in total, making it the second largest country in the world but 25th in the world by land mass, with 94.15% of total area being water.
The land presently called The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations was inhabited for millions of years by indigenous peoples. According to native folklore taken from the government, in the 12th century, the Glorious Leader, of unknown descent, marched throughout the islands and fought each and every one of the natives to the death, alone. After this grueling 100 day journey, the Glorious Leader officially named these plots of land after everything he hoped this country would never be, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations.
FUN is a unitary single-party state and a benevolent dictatorship, the Glorious Leader being the current and forever head of state. The country is officially monolingual although as a classical language, the teaching of Latin is compulsory in all schools. It is one of the least multicultural nations, a product of strict immigration and refugee acceptance laws. It's highly advanced economy ranks as the highest in the world in GDP, equivalent to the European Union, relying primarily on its abundance of natural resources and booming technological sectors. Accounting for 24% of the world's GDP, it is a prominent political and cultural force, and a champion in scientific research and technological innovations.
The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations is amongst the highest developed countries in the world, ranking tops in the Human Development Index. In contrast however, it ranks among the lowest in international measurements of civil liberties and democracy. It is however, a global pioneer in education, quality of life, and governmental transparency. FUN is a member of the Anti-Commonwealth of Nations (with the US), Organisation for Undemocratic Economic Co-operation and Development (OUECD), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, Pacific Islands Forum, United Nations, World Trade Organization, G8, Group of Ten, and G20.
Geography
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations occupies much of Oceania, sharing land borders with Indonesia and Australia to the west. The country stretches throughout the Pacific Ocean, and depending on map chosen, Southern Ocean. By total area, FUN is the second-largest country in the world, after Master Putin's Russia. By land mass alone, however, the Islands rank 25th, the difference being due to the large bodies of water found inside the Island archipelago. The country lies between latitude 7.5°N and 42°S, and longitudes 134° and 180°E.
The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations consists of five distinct ecological regions; Tropical Moist Deciduous Forest, Subtropical Humid Forest, Temperate Oceanic Forest, Temperate Mountain Systems, and Evergreen.[4] FUN is incredibly geographically active, with numerous earthquakes and active volcanoes on each island, most notably throughout the infamous Ring of Fire.[5] Given the destructive state of the land, earthquake and volcano protective measures have been taken against all buildings. Similar to the Trans-bay Tube in San Francisco,[6] all buildings constructed near active tectonic plates are tested vigorously to prevent collapse under magnitude 9.0 earthquakes. Volcanic protective measures are also set in place throughout buildings to prevent against potential collapse of buildings as a result of accumulation of ash on the roof.[7] The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations works together with numerous other countries, in particular the USGS, in the Ring of Fire towards effective earthquake and volcano detection, and the implementation of additional safety measures.[8]
Land Size
[edit]According to ancient Islander myths, the Glorious Leader personally hand-selected this plot of land to develop into prosperity. He is said to have chosen this archipelago, not because of the large land size, but rather because of the immense benefits that come along unto this specific plot of land. At precisely the borders of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations lies the largest heat differential between surface water and that of 1000 meters deep, perfect for Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion,[9] the primary energy source for the entire island nation. Continuing, given the large amount of area dedicated towards water space, roughly 94.15% of the total, very little mass development, à la Russia,[10] must occur throughout the nation. Rather, mock city-states, akin to Singapore, can be founded on numerous of the larger sized islands occupied by The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, including Pacem, Prosperitatis, and Victoria. Militaristically, the Mind of the Glorious Leader requires significantly fewer armed forces to defend his generously small plots of land compared to one with similar total area, effectively minimizing military expenditures, last measured in the United States at 3.5% of total GDP.[11] The abundance of oil reserves throughout the land, particularly off-shore,[12] has been capitalized upon by the Glorious Leader, with significant amounts of the profits stemming from off-shore oil platforms going into new technology and developments domestically. Geographic diversity is emphasized heavily within The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, with significant differences in nature and wildlife among each island.[13] The unique situation held by the Glorious Leader permits the economic prosperity and benevolence of the second largest country in the world while holding the ability to rapidly increase the nation's wealth through enterprising citizenry and a high GDP per capita. Statistically, the wealthiest countries in the world, per PPP, are all either small in land area, population, or both.[14] Most important to the Glorious Leader, however, is his ability to maintain control and governance over the smaller land size. Accordingly, the population develops a significantly more sophisticated, educated look, with far fewer "forsaken areas", commonplace in countries with large land sizes. To exemplify, Compton, CA, a city littered with crime, gangs, and all around poverty has essentially fallen through the cracks of both state and federal governments in the United States.[15] In The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, each and every area of the country will be carefully monitored to ensure that all cities maintain the high level of standard expected upon.
Despite the propaganda spread by the nation, political experts have offered deferring opinions towards the large land size of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations. Internal transportation remains a pressing issue within this large country, with heavy dependence on air and sea travel becoming the norm.[16] A contrary to the natural resources found in the country lie within the transportation of such goods. However, the Glorious Leader has sought to rectify this situation and has recently unveiled plans to spend billions of dollars on both researching and implementing a vacuum-pressurized train system to ease commutes between islands.[17] The political and economic vulnerability that often comes with a small land size, particularly due to economic niches, is adequately solved through a booming capitalist market in the country coupled a large untapped oil supply. A significant downside of smaller countries is the lack of cultural and ethic diversity.[18] In contrary though, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations embraces its lack of diversity, pointing out the numerous flaws that have come out of modern-day society as a result of diversification. A study by Harvard professor Robert Putnam discovered clear correlations between diversity in communities and incohesive communities, and thus vice-versa.[19] The very concept of a thedes is embraced within the Islands, homophily is allowed to exist, promoting an excellent sense of community, and a more effective society. No longer must funding go towards combating the thedes of a population, concepts of positive-discrimination and racism can no longer run the risk of tearing up society as a whole simply because the country is homologous.
Borders
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations borders Australia and Indonesia in its only two land borders. Similar to Canada, it is universally agreed upon that the favorable position of the country alongside two economic well-off countries works heavily towards their advantage, allowing for an efficient flow of goods throughout the world. While all countries have collectively refused an open border, it is clear that they remain to represent vital economic gateways that make up billions of dollars in trade and travel each year. Given the (relatively) developed conditions of neighboring countries, limited attention must be given towards the smuggling of illegal aliens, drugs, and weapons in comparison to the heightened security measures mandatory alongside the US-Mexico[20] and Mexico-Guatemala[21] borders. This enables superior efficiency for the millions of visitors and businesspeople crossing the border yearly, and most importantly, allows for the money initially for homeland security to be invested elsewhere. Border-cities also reap the benefits of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations's favorable neighboring countries with significant income garnered from tourists crossing the border.[22] Given the progressive consumption tax in place in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, all purchases made overseas or cross-border are taxed at the point-of-entry at a nominal rate.
In the ocean, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations "borders" Wallis and Futuna, and Tonga to the east, and the Philippines to the west. Given that international waters separate the countries, little strategic or economic benefit results in the close proximity between the countries. They do, however, serve as very effective outposts for possible invasions from the east and west respectively.
Waterways
[edit]Given its state as an island archipelago, the entire nation is surrounded by water, making up 94.15% of the total area. Despite the large water makeup however, according to United Nations legislature, while The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations remains in control of its sovereign waters, it is mandated to permit naval vessels to cross through domestic waters.[23] Island waters contain some of the world's most critical sea-lanes for seaborne trade, naval movements, and various other maritime interests. According to international law, the Islands have various obligations pertaining to navigation, such as the provision of sea-lanes for naval vessels, and the guarantee of their safety and security.[23] FUN does not have the power to impose levies on foreign ships exercising the right to safe passage across Island waters, mandating all security costs to come from domestic budgets. Significant dangers are associated with the large volume of maritime traffic through Island waters, and in particular the transport of dangerous and expensive cargo. While the country maintains strategic interests in commerce, security, and resources in the region, it must address the many negative effects associated with the commonplace international navigation, including marine pollution, and maritime criminal activity. Pressing issues of piracy have all but forced The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations to instill numerous warships throughout the country's six east-west shipping lanes.[24] Marine security has been a pressing issue for much of the country's history with large portions of the military budget going towards naval and coast guard forces. To deter piracy, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has made the crime punishable by death, with no chance of appeal. Despite the gross lack of recognition of human rights in this sentiment, statistics have proven that this is a very effective countermeasure towards piracy, reducing the amount of reported cases by almost half.
It is said that in ancient times, the positioning of the nation near such a high amount of water was considered to be astonishingly favorable for marine trade, contributing to the booming success of the nation throughout history. Known as a trade hub between Asia and Europe, the Glorious Leader capitalized on its unique positioning in the world by placing much of its garnered income from trade into science and technology. Little more is known regarding the Glorious Leader's decision to place his land near the water, but it is highly suspected that his love for all things water played a significant role in not only country placement, but his choice of a national animal, the holy Narwhal.
Population
[edit]The population of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, as of the 2011 National Census, is 385,598,733, making it the 17th most populated country in the world.[25] Density-wise, only calculating for land mass, the country is the 40th most highest in population-density at 337 people per square kilometer, ranking just above the country's Pacific counterparts in Japan.[25] Given the country's booming economy and abundance of resources, the high population should come at no surprise. Such a large population often provides significant risk towards a lower quality of life and inferior social services considering the struggle to maintain a balanced budget with a higher populous.[26] However, given the precarious placement of the nation in resource-filled waters and thus booming economy, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has been able to establish itself as a forerunner in the global markets, producing significant capital towards the development of new and efficient social services to better improve the quality of life. The Island prides itself on providing streamlined and accessible social services in large concentrations of limited space. Fighting the low-density urban sprawl commonplace in numerous cities, including Toronto,[27] the large city populous design found throughout the country permits efficiency in transport. This allows for lower commute times, lower pollution levels, and a significantly more cost-effective public transport system centralized in one area. Perhaps the best example of city-centered design exists throughout Europe, whereupon public transport is vastly superior, the cities are "self-contained", and pollution is greatly reduced.[28] The suburnisation concept in place, primarily in North America, is a tremendous waste of resources in every aspect, particularly in the case of transport and land. in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, city planners have successfully transplanted the popular social services linked towards suburban culture onto each of its cities, allowing for a more efficient workforce and use of resources.
The capital city of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations exists on the coastal city of Neema. Founded on what used to be Sydney, its general appeal lies within the world's largest natural harbor.[29] Since its ancient use as a Pacific and later Trans-Pacific trading post, Neema has grown to be the economic hub of the world. Capitalizing on the flat land, significant urban development has been undergone to transform Neema into the city of the future, incorporating technologies and scientific advancements done by Island researchers. The climate of the city, one of the only cities in the country that do not undergo constant natural disasters, is said to have played a large role in the Glorious Leader's choice of residence.[30] The subtropical climate, moderated by surrounding ocean currents, serves as adequate ground for farmland and agriculture in rural areas of the metropolis.
Climate
[edit]The climate in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations is tropical marine with temperate climates along the southern coast of what used to be Australia. It is highly influenced by ocean currents, in particular the El Nino Southern Oscillation in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The temperature throughout much of the islands is warm year-round with minimal extremes, furthering the booming tourism sector. Being in the Southern Hemisphere, the warm season typically lasts from November to April and the cooler season from May to October. Rainfall is exceedingly common, particularly inland, during the warmer seasons.[13]
The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations are incredibly threatened by the consequences of sea level rise, prompting rise to development of the most environmentally-friendly technologies in the world. In addition, the Glorious Leader heads the environmental council in the United Nations in efforts to combat climate change throughout the world. Domestically, research is being undergone towards artificially raising the shorelines of FUN's numerous islands thus biding time for further global efforts.
Resources
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations contains a vast number of natural resources, most prominently of which are the oil deposits off the coast of its numerous islands. Not to be forgotten, however, is the abundance of fish, gold, and farmland on former-Papua New Guinea and other middle-sized islands.[1] Despite the booming production of resources, the country largely exports much of the oil it produces in favor of far more environmentally-friendly methods of energy production. Given the temperate differences in the ocean, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations utilizes new found Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion techniques to garner maximal energy output coupled with Deep Water Source Cooling to minimize energy usage during the warmer months. Given excess energy from the various techniques, the country often sells energy supplies to neighboring countries, Indonesia and Australia, at a price reduction, further contributing towards the Green philosophy adopted by the Glorious Leader. Further benefits of OTEC include the ability to desalinate ocean water for human consumption, a large benefit for a country made of 94.15% saltwater
All exports and imports are not subject to any duties or fees, barring exceptions for specific developing countries known to be politically unstable. This enables The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations to cement its place as a global superpower, enabling free trade with all nations thus collectively bolstering the economy of the world as a whole. Domestically speaking, the trade resulting from the principles initiated by the Glorious Leader has led to a significant influx of intellectually stimulated individuals immigrating into the country, further bolstering the country's technological and scientific advancements. The worldwide recognition of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations as a result of their free trade principles have brought significant fame and tourism towards the country, including a record 55
movies recorded on various islands on the country.
In addition, germanium reserves are being artificially
developed on the island though the mining from sunflowers and various other household plants. Germanium, a key aspect in fiber optics, is often mined commonly through a very complex and arduous process. With the new scientific advancements on the Island, researchers have developed this brand new concept, a concept that industry experts will contribute to the country's economy in a large way.
Government
[edit]Structure
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations participate in a unitary single-party state. Led by Supreme Commander Aladeen, the nation is known by many to be a benevolent dictatorship. According to ancient folklore, he was born from the Flying Spaghetti Monster itself, making him entirely unbiased, consciously and subconsciously, towards positions in society. There lies no inherent bias towards social construct, for the Glorious Leader was born neither from a lower, nor upper-class family. He is said to have no race, class, history, nor ethic background; there is no bias within the Glorious Leader. He is not subject to the typical human grouping qualities, making him truly equitable in his sole and singular treatment of all being under his jurisdiction. It is only through these unique set of events may he govern his nation to prosperity.[31] He draws comparisons to perhaps the only measurable ruler in all of history, Marcus Aurelius.[32] Popular with the people, scholarly, philosophical, militaristic, and interested in the affairs of his nation, he is the only one to have enacted the beneficial reforms necessary to drive his empire to success. Perhaps Aurelius' greatest downfall however was his mortality. The Glorious Leader, however, is not subject to the puny, weak demands of human life; rather he is the only immortal on the planet, destined to lead The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations into greatness.
Military
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations military is arguably amongst the strongest in the world. Possessing an impressive array of naval weapons, the Islander navy is perfect for its associated geographical land it is assigned to protect. It is seen as a guarantor of the country's longstanding independence and emphasis on Utopian ideologies. Little emphasis in the military is given towards attack but rather focusing on the philosophy of defense and deterrence. This principle is universally placed on all citizens, with a mandated 2 year service for everyone in the country, regardless of gender or economic status. Conscription begins at age 18, with the exception of those that have yet to complete required pre-university education, in which case conscription may be deferred. In addition, a draft is deemed legal and possible in accordance with the constitution of The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations. In the case of an invasion, the Glorious Leader reserves the right to mandate all individuals of fighting age to immediately bear arms and temporarily enlist in the military for the duration of the invasion. Due to the scarcity of open land in the most populous cities, all training performed by both active and conscripted military members is done in smaller islands, used primarily for resources and associated production.
Both guerrilla and naval warfare are heavily emphasized within the military, given the nature of geography on the island. The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has reached a critical infliction point in the development and training of elite special operations forces. Increasing budget pressures and modernization of warfare has prompted a premium towards small-footprint operations and resource-efficient activity to provide a cost-effective defense. Copying recent changes developed by the United States Special Operations Forces, counter-terrorism and unilateral man-hunting skills contribute towards a highly refined orchestrated set of defense, information, and indirect approaches.[33] Given recent successes by the US Spec Ops programs in Colombia, the Philippines, and most recently with al-Qaeda with Osama-Bin Laden, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has transformed the entirety of its enlisted armed forces into various special operation units, on ground, air, and sea. An indirect approach through intel and information has become the tool of choice given its low direct cost and the ability to employ information to its fullest and most enduring effect. Budgetary measures put in place by the Mind of the Glorious Leader mandate cost-effective approaches to national security through carefully selected, intensely trained units, each with different competencies. According to recent United States budget reports, the capital delivered towards special operations units, as of the 2012 fiscal year, measured at 1.4 percent of the total defense budget; a staggeringly low cost for one of the premier forces in the world. The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has developed an innovative and modern approach to warfare. Roughly 50 percent of the budget is spent towards the development and training of specialist forces, including modern direct-energy weapons, and collaborative training amongst other superior specialist forces, including the Canadian JTF2, US Navy Seals, British SAS and numerous others.
Because of its neutrality policy, the FUN military has refused to participate in numerous international operations, including Iraq and Afghanistan, despite international urging. The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations is not part of any military alliances primarily due to the refusal of international military bases on domestic land.
The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations harbors no reported nuclear weapons, though it is suspected that Glorious Leader Aladeen maintains a secret bunker of highly advanced Weapons of Mass Destruction. Due to the maintained secrecy and the Island stance as a world power, other nations have yet to approach the Glorious Leader regarding nuclear disarmament, potentially making The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations the largest nuclear threat in the world. It is believed that the Islands hold nuclear weapons for the purposes of militaristic and trading purposes. The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations have been quite reputed to sell various older nuclear weapons towards less developed nations, particularly in the Middle East, in exchange for lump sums of money, as well as a mandatory peace treaty. While deemed unethical, this undercover trading has resulted in far superior technology in comparison to Western powers, both on a militaristic standpoint as well as social. In warfare, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations uses nuclear power primarily to prepare for potential nuclear warfare. Well cemented in its place as a world superpower, the holding of nuclear weapons has become a necessity for the Island to secure its place in the aftermath of a nuclear war.
International Relations
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations is amongst the most developed nations in the world, according to HDI. In contrast to other countries of similar status however, FUN has adopted a very strict foreign policy prohibiting the deliverance of financial aid to Least Developed Countries (LDC). Given the very nature of the governments running LDC's, it is practically a guarantee that significant portions of foreign aid will be squandered and lost, and all but certain that the money delivered will not reach its intended cause. In 2010, the British Foreign Office donated a total of 388 million pounds in a grand scheme to improve Indian schools.[34] According to reports released by the Indian government, a quarter of that amount was reported as stolen or "lost", much of that cash no longer existed, and a proportion went into buying private cars for federal officials. Support of corrupt governments, such as that of Ethiopia, has resulted in the entire amount being solely funded towards the government's oppressive grip of power over its citizens. Since 1960, more than $1 trillion of aid has been funneled in to Sub-Saharan Africa, yet GDP per capita in the region has continued to falter.[34] The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations does not require the political fronts placed upon by the numerous republics around the world, therefore eliminating the need for foreign aid as merely a "feel good vote getter". According to the 2012 British political report, the government has spent 11.7 billion pounds, or 0.7% of national income towards foreign aid,[35] money that is spent by the Islands on domestic policies, scientific advancement, and improving quality of life throughout.
In the case of developing countries (or Newly Industrialized Countries), The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations adopts a mutually beneficial foreign policy. All international relations between countries are treated equal to industrialized countries, irrespective of governmental policies and ideals. Little to no concern is given towards political status, whether it be communist or capitalist, under the presumption that all citizens are treated to some degree of human rights. Accordingly, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has been able to exploit various trade deals with countries such as China, Cuba, and various others long before much of the Western world.
Taxation
[edit]For more on Taxation in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, see Taxation on the Islands
In lieu of the traditional income and sales tax methods, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has adopted a very modern approach to economics. Given the current state of modern economies, particularly the widespread approach to tax evasion, progressive consumption tax effectively targets and wholly removes any loopholes and tax evaders found in current systems.[36] Continuing, land value tax will be adopted in favor of property tax to promote the development of land area, thus reducing stagnant undeveloped properties. Lastly, capital gains tax is implemented in favor of corporate tax in order to maximize taxable income, not just limiting the government to a single strand of cash flow. The exceedingly simple, three format tax system implemented in the country allows for all citizens to file their taxes properly, and most importantly, minimizes potential loopholes for potential persons to exploit, thus maximizing the benefit provided in the form of social services.
Government Policies
[edit]Currency
[edit]All transactions made in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations are done digitally. No paper currency has been made, in lieu of environmentally-friendly digital cards, phones, and wallets. This serves to minimize production costs from the development of a national mint, and contribute towards lowering carbon emissions by preventing deforestation.
The national currency of the Island is the Karma (KAR). It is normally abbreviated with the sign ↑ or alternatively K$ on international keyboards. No sub-units exist, but a multiplier of 100 Karma is equivalent to one Gold. Numerous other currencies around the world are linked in a fixed exchange rate to the Karma including all surrounding Oceanic countries and a smattering of smaller countries throughout the world.
Unemployment
[edit]Unemployment is wholly unacceptable on the Islands. All those not employed by either the private sector or the government are given precisely 21 days to find further employment. In the case that employment cannot be found by any individuals, barring those enrolled in education facilities, compulsory work placements will be assigned by the Glorious Leader on a week-to-week basis. This highly unethical solution is seen to be a primary contributor towards record zero unemployment rates and the Island's booming oil and energy industries. Seen as a highly effective motivator towards employees, the employees on the Island are amongst the most efficient workers in the entire world, a participant in the world's largest market hotbed. The solution devised by the Mind of the Glorious Leader effectively solves the problem of individuals in less-desired fields, such as those in trades and those working on oil platforms. Eliminating the need for migrant workers, this governmental initiative eliminates the risk of poverty and dependence on governmental aid, further propelling The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations into financial prosperity. Problems do exist in international scales, particularly through the supposed suspension of citizen's free will. In accordance to the Glorious Leader, the Island does not create struggle to the unemployed, but rather allows for them to have a far superior life while benefiting society. The very system in place under countries worldwide mandates that people either work, or go homeless. While homelessness may seem to be the liberating option, work remains as the underlying principle; work is required to scrounge for food in dumpsters, work is required to move from place to place at a moments notice.[37] The idea of financial aid towards the poor, as explored in numerous developed countries, has, while been theoretically accurate, remains insufficient and unproductive towards society's poorest. Providing a Robin Hood style benefit system permits individuals to sustain a well, albeit low-income lifestyle, at the expense of hard-working individuals. This is not only damaging towards the economy, but also society's production as well. Thereby, the social welfare system instilled by The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations to mandate all those of age to work creates an optimal society and economy whilst benefiting all members of our glorious island nation.
Economy
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations subscribes to a largely mixed Socialist/Capitalist economic principle. Although various governmental principles are in place, particularly socially and environmentally, a free market is still very much so in effect. Similar to the ideologies adopted in Norway, the two founding fathers of the economy are not, and should not, be kept mutually exclusive. Both economic principles leave much to be desired, yet the basic fundamentals of the two are sound and coherent. Profit must exist to motivate businesses to remain sustainable, as seen in various European countries (and Canada), far too many "non-profit" organizations rely simply on governmental handouts. There needs to be a merger between the efficiency and sustainability of the for-profit world with the ethical philosophies and social missions of the non-profit. In capitalism, the profit-above-all, unlimited growth ideologies creates such a toxic solution where none can survive, not even the wealthy.[38] Costs of production have thinned margins to the point of preventing profitability. To increase profit now means cutting basic employee rights like safety standards, training and quality assurances, and employee benefits. The short-term goals for profit are being taken for long-term risks and destruction. The economic models set in place by countries throughout the world are being forced to consume itself or evolve; evolve into the solution that The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has subscribed to since its very foundation, the Social Enterprise Movement. To its very core, it is the adoption of the commune and blended corporate models, a merger between capitalist efficiencies complemented with socialist values.
In the Social Enterprise Movement, significant freedom is given towards the running of a business. Entrepreneurship is heavily encouraged, with very simple and cheap (practically free) processes to start a company, promoting the development of new and innovative ideas and to bolster younger generations. Numerous laws are set in place to protect not only business owners, but also employees, including but not limited to safety, training, and benefits. Most importantly, however, is the ideology that corporations are of the creation of people, and thus under the fate and control of the collective, not just the few. Social ideals, including healthcare, education, and utilities are entirely covered by the government through taxation, promoting a superior way of life for all, regardless of income. The application of capitalist strategies is used not to maximize the profits of shareholders, but rather to maximize social impact in human and environmental well-being. While a philanthropic base is often found in various commercial enterprises, the commitment to social objectives is founded entirely on the basis that such a commitment will lead towards an increase in profit margins. Practically unexplored in the rest of the world, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has been able to capitalize upon this best-of-both-worlds strategy, promoting the highest level of living (according to HDI), along with one of the world's largest markets.
Infrastructure
[edit]All buildings in the nation are designed arcologically, an architectural design to maximize residential, commercial, and industrial facilities while minimizing environmental impact. This pedestrian and transportation-friendly city design permits citizens an escape from blistering weathers with underground tunnels, and offers a shelter in case of natural disaster. Explored in a non-sustainable complex in Toronto and Las Vegas, it represents a revolutionary way of living without requiring the need to go outside in cases of extreme weather. McMurdo Station in Antarctica resembles a significantly less technologically advanced version of the concept employed by cities on the Island. While itself not self-sufficient (the U.S. airdrops fuel and supplies yearly), it is able to generate its own food source and electricity. On The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, all major cities employ this style of architecture, enabling the efficiency and space needed for such a booming community while at the same time maintaining the ecological state of the environment.
Social Services
[edit]All social services in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations are funded from the government through a variety of sources. The foremost source of income lies within the country's progressive consumption, and capital gains taxes. Numerous secondary sources of income exist in the country's numerous governmental policies, including military, foreign aid, and mining. Money taken away from military spending, leaving behind a basic, single-branch operation, contributes heavily towards the funding of the country's lavish social services, with an estimated 2.3% of total GDP saved. Income garnered from the Island's numerous off-shore oil platforms, as well as governmental mandates of said platforms to utilize domestic energy sources, makes up a large bulk of the expenses in social services.
Health
[edit]Universal health care is implemented in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations to a similar concept as that of Norway.[39] While basic, fundamentally necessary treatment is covered, any luxury expenditures will be covered on the patient's bill. Continuing, care beyond the standard scope of medicine (medications, dental, optical) is subject to a nominal insurance surcharge, payable to the government. Further tiers of advanced medical coverage continue as the insurance coverage becomes more broad.
Education
[edit]Education is amongst the premier principles set in place by the Glorious Leader. All individuals are required to possess a minimum of a high-school education, with post-secondary education highly encouraged. The entire school system throughout the country is funded publicly; no private schools are permitted to exist under the guise of the mandatory education required by the state. In accordance with the governmental website, the logic behind this maneuver lies within equal funding and opportunity for all students. No longer are students discriminated as a result of their parents economic class, no longer will those in elite private schools receive superior resources and attention simply because of donations. Through an entirely public system, richer families will be mandated to fund the entire school system should they choose to receive the level of teaching expected upon in private school systems. The emphasis on equal opportunity and socialist ideals has made The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations among the worldwide leaders in literacy rate, standardized testing, and international Olympiad competitions.
Post-secondary education in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations is highlighted by the University of The Glorious Leader, located in the capital city of Neema. The consensus #1 in the world, the government provides significant financial subsidy to Islanders wishing to continue their studies on the Island. This effectively eliminates the popularized concept of student loans ever so often found in the Western communities, particularly in America and Canada. With no risk of debt out of university, students in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations are highly motivated to enhance their education, and subsequently knowledge. Governmental spending to cover this subsidy is derived from a combination of exorbitant international tuition, high taxation rates, and offshore oil platforms.
Crime
[edit]In The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations, crime is heavily monitored and a thing of the past. All active first responders, in particular police officers, are mandated to wear lightweight cameras as well as microphones at all times while on duty. Similar to the plan executed in Calgary,[40] the motives behind this lie in minimizing any potential biases towards special interest groups. As witnessed in recent scandals in the United States of America, errors whilst in power are frighteningly common amongst all individuals. As a result, all activity performed by officers will be heavily monitored and critiqued by specialized individuals to remove all possibility of police negligence. Any officers caught doing anything outside their realm of practice, or otherwise unethical or illegal by any sense of the law are immediately and harshly punished to the fullest extent of the law with no leniency provided as a result of their authority.
All citizens residing inside The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations are mandated to wear GPS anklets/bracelets/rings at all times to comply with any potential crime investigations Through adequate locating of all persons in the scene of a crime, the Head State possess an absolute 100% accuracy rate in prosecuting criminals. These extravagant safety measures prohibit any and all possible false prosecutions delivered on account of modern "criminal investigations", involving but not limited to interrogation and jail time. Continuing, through extensive research performed by the Mind of the Glorious Leader (Trademark pending), it is believed that the heavy policing and crime measures performed in the homeland will result in a drastic decrease in crime. Given immediate and impartial policing through GPS locating following any and all crimes, it is practically a given that any criminal will be caught immediately, thus deterring any potential criminals, barring the mentally impaired. All confirmed criminal acts, against either people or property, are dealt with harshly through deportation, indentured servitude, or execution. Imprisonment is only permitted in cases whereupon execution would be the punishment of choice, but the crime cannot be 100% placed unto a single person.
The ideologies of a police state embraced by The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations have brought significant controversy on a global scale, primarily as they restrict a number of "Fundamental Human Rights" as outlined by the United Nations. However, given the country's role as an economic and political superpower, few dare to cross the path of the Glorious Leader. Despite the disputes internationally, it is generally well accepted that the country's extensive preventative measures towards crime have proved entirely successful, with not only a guarantee in catching criminals, but also a lowered crime rate.
Utilities
[edit]All basic utilities (electricity, water, internet, phone etc.) are covered by the Glorious Leader. However, following calculated necessary human consumption, as calculated by experts, charges will be added on in order to curtail over-consumption and to prevent further ecological damage. All charges are calculated on a progressive basis such that the fee represents a percentage of total income, rather than a flat rate.
Culture
[edit]National Will
[edit]The people in The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations are described to be amongst the most intelligent and logical people on the planet, a product of the country's education system. Despite this, however, they possess limited knowledge of domestic political policies a caveat suspected to be due to indoctrination of their citizens by the leader their love and trust for the Glorious Leader. When classified, the citizens of the country are often described to be similar in personal ideals to that of the United States, very patriotic towards the country but at the same time maintaining a level of ignorance towards governmental affairs. They represent a very hard-working folk, products of the efficiency trained into them by social constructs.
Sport and Recreation
[edit]Popular sports include football (soccer), athletics, swimming, and table tennis. At an international level, The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations has excelled at many of its national sports, with particular emphasis on Olympic events. Practically all Islanders live near a coastal zone, making the beach and associated recreational activities a popular spot and part of its national identity. The FUN national teams have consistently won the OFC Nations Cup throughout its history, defeating rival New Zealand in almost all of their appearances. Most recently, Islander swimming sensation Mike Phelps won a record 8 gold medals during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, annihilating the impostor competition from the United States. The highest rated television broadcasts include sports telecasts such as the FIFA World Cup, Summer Olympics, and the OFC Nations Cup.
Transportation
[edit]The Free Federated Democratic Peoples Utopia of the League of United Island Nations is currently undergoing development of two separate inter-island transportation systems; the Vactrain for long-distances, and the Hyperloop, developed by Elon Musk,[41] for shorter distances. Given their abilities to traverse distances in record times (8,000 km/h) these transportation systems represent innovative and new ways to maximize efficiency throughout the country by minimizing the time it takes for resources and people to traverse the long distances that is the country. Both transportation systems are to be outfitted with hydrogen fuel cell technologies, minimizing the effects on the environment on these supersonic methods of transport.
