Global Citizenship Education aims to empower learners to engage and assume active roles, both locally and globally, to face and resolve global challenges and to become proactive contributors to a more just, peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure, and sustainable world (UNESCO, 2014). It is an individual and collective pursuit with no expiration date or geographic boundaries. The concept can be embraced by any person, country, or government willing to see beyond national borders and look to the end of the horizon. In short, global citizenship is a mindset that challenges us to care for humanity and the planet by actively participating in problem-solving and finding solutions. The values of global citizenship remain the "north star" guiding this initiative: respect for diversity, empathy, open-mindedness, justice, and fairness. (Google Gemini, 2024) These values make global citizenship available for the taking in most learning environments. Beyond the traditional or virtual classroom, corporations, community, and religious organizations can lead the way by teaching these values and adopting the groundwork already in place through UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals Report 2020 and curriculum available in OXFAM's 2015 guide for schools. We all must look to the end of the horizon if we are to grow a generation of global citizens.
