Science Fiction Film Festival in Örebro
[edit]Science Fiction Film Festival in Örebro (Swedish: Science Fiction Filmfestivalen i Örebro, abbreviated SFFÖ) is a annual film festival in Örebro in Sweden.
Format
[edit]The festival presents Science-Fiction films that tackle the big themes in today's research. The festival provides two viewpoints: on one hand, the films themselves will showcase the world of science as it has been imagined by film-makers. The second viewpoint comes from researchers who provides a discussion and contrast the "solutions" in the films to what can be achieved today.
SFFÖ addresses a major concern of the scientific community, namely that of making the broad themes of technical research topics amenable to the general public and to engage society in the discussion about where research is going and the social, economic and ethical implications of such technology. The films chosen for this festival are give an opportunity to reflect upon where we want research to lead us in the future.
Before each film is shown, it is preceded by a short presentation by a representative of the research community. The presenters, through videos, shows relevant research results that are connected to the film that is shown. The discussion are approx. 5 minutes – followed by questions from the audience and discussion after the film.
