Edward Little Neilson (26 September 1830 - 18 August 1899) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was James Neilson.

His mother was Barbara Burrell. James and Barbara married on 2 June 1830 in St. Cuthbert's parish, Edinburgh.

Edward Little Neilson was born 26 September 1830 in Duddingston, Edinburgh.

He married Jessie Nicoll (26 August 1834 - 1884), the daughter of James Nicoll of Lerwick and Janet Elizabeth Fraser of Yell. Edward and Jessie married on 24 September 1866 in at the Waverley Hotel, Sauchiehall Street, Blythswood, Glasgow.[8][9]

He possibly remarried Annie White Bilcase (c. 1852 - 19 February 1932) from Port Glasgow.[10] She was a widow, of husband William Forgie (c. 1843 - 1894), and had a prior family. Annie and William had married on 21 February 1872 in Greenock.[11] In the 1891 census, the Forgies were neighbours of Neilson at Wardend, Kilmacolm. Annie was classed as his widow on Edward's death and his estate went to her.

Attended Trustees Academy in 1856.

Death

He died at his home in 147 Kenmure Street, Pollokshields, Glasgow on 18 August 1899.[12] The value of his estate was given as £418, 19 shillings and 7 pence.[13]
