William Findlay (26 July 1875 - 24 September 1960) was a Scottish painter.

Life

His father was William Findlay [Snr.] (born c. 1846), a Kilmarnock born G.P. that moved to Glasgow.

His mother was Margaret Carruthers (born c. 1848) from Lockerbie. They married on 4 July 1872 in Broughton, England.

They had 5 sons and 2 daughters.

William Findlay was born on 26 July 1875 in 50 Holmhead Street, St. Rollox, Glasgow.[1]

He was staying at 19 Westercraigs Street in Dennistoun in 1901.[2]

He stayed at 175 St. Vincent Street in Glasgow.[3]

He was on the Glanmire boat when it sank in 1912.[4]

He visited the United States in 1924; and he moved there in 1928. He first settled in Canton, Ohio, marrying an American and obtaining US citizenship. He moved to Los Angeles in 1936.[5]

He died on 24 September 1960 in Los Angeles, United States.[6]

Works

He designed a memorial for the Glasgow Stock Exchange. Many of the stock exchange fought in the First World War; they were asked to fight with the Cameron Highlanders under Colonel Lochiel.[7]
