John Douglas Michie (c. 1827 - 30 August 1893) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life

His father was Henry Michie (15 October 1788 - 26 December 1832), an excise officer from Prestonkirk in East Lothian.
His mother was Elizabeth Herriot (born 14 September 1785) from Edinburgh. Henry and Elizabeth married on 6 December 1813 in Canongate, Edinburgh.
John Douglas Michie was born c. 1827 in Edinburgh.
He married Eleanor Mary James (13 July 1836 - 31 December 1921) from Lambeth in London, England. They married on 20 December 1867 in Edinburgh. She also painted and exhibited at the RSA under Mrs. John D. Michie.
Art
[edit]Before he went to England, he used the name John Martin Michie for his art. When he returned to Scotland, he used his own name of John Douglas Michie.

Death
[edit]He died on 30 August 1893 in Edinburgh.[7] He was buried in Morningside Cemetery on 2 September 1893.[8][9]
