William Meldrum (6 March 1865 - 7 November 1942) was a Scottish painter and curtain and carpet designer.[1][2]

His father was James Smeaton Meldrum (1 April 1831 - 17 January 1889), a power loom tenter in a weaving factory, from Dunfermline.

His mother was Ellen Inglis (born 15 June 1829) from Dunfermline.[6] James and Ellen married on 2 January 1855 in Dunfermline.[7]

William Meldrum was born on 6 March 1865 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow.[8]

He married Agnes Thomson Shanks (born 5 October 1867) from Gourock.[9] Agnes was the sister of the artist William Somerville Shanks (28 September 1864 - 28 July 1951).[10]

William and Agnes's son James Meldrum was born in Glasgow c. 1897.[11]

Death

He died on 7 November 1942 at 121 Kilmarnock Road, Glasgow. His usual address was 70 Limeside Avenue in Rutherglen.

The death certificate states he died of a malignant disease of the throat and gullet, which he suffered for 4 months.
