Macneil Macleay (20 December 1806 - 18 January 1883) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was Kenneth Macleay (10 August 1768 - 14 December 1858), a doctor from Kiltarlity near Inverness, who eventually moved to set up a practice in Tasmania. He was a noted Scottish antiquarian and is often denoted as Kenneth Macleay the elder.

His mother was Flora MacDonald (7 March 1773 - 22 July 1841) from Keppoch near Roybridge at Lochaber. Kenneth and Flora married in 1800.

Macneil Macleay was born in Oban on 20 December 1806.

His brother Kenneth Macleay, known as the younger, also became an artist.
