James Millar Mackay (14 April 1834 - 7 November 1917) was a Scottish painter.[1]

His father was Adam Mackay (24 June 1804 - 11 January 1868), a tailor from Kilmarnock.
His mother was Agnes Millar (born c. 1808) from Kilmarnock. Adam and Agnes married on 15 December 1828 in Kilmarnock.
James Millar Mackay was born on 14 April 1834 in Kilmarnock. Notable brothers were the artist Alexander Sutherland Mackay (29 March 1832 - 17 July 1898) and the provost of Kilmarnock, wine merchant and artist David Mackay (5 November 1844 - 27 September 1906).
James married Mary Black (15 January 1844 - 21 July 1925) from Glencorse in Midlothian.
They married on 19 November 1869 in Howgate, south of Penicuik, in Midlothian.

[edit]He died on 7 November 1917 in Edinburgh. He died from polyps on the bladder.
