Alasdair Gordon Douglas Mackay (27 July 1891 - 12 January 1968) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was Charles Gordon Mackay (c. 1843 - 16 September 1927) from Dornoch. He was a doctor and a surgeon, but also a noted artist using the name Gordon Mackay. He exhibited in the RSA in 1884.

His mother was Elizabeth Anne Macrae (8 November 1859 - 8 May 1954), known as Bessie, from Harris in Eilean Siar .

Elizabeth Anne Macrae was a twin. She was born with a deformity on her little finger. Her twin sister Alexandrina Cornfute Macrae was married on the same day and place as her. Charles and Bessie married on 27 April 1887 at Fulham in London, England. Alexandrina married a John Tolmie.

Alasdair Gordon Douglas Mackay was born in Lochcarron, Wester Ross on 27 July 1891.[3]

He married Jane Houston.

Death

He died on 12 January 1968 at 7 Cooper Street, Plockton, Ross-shire. The death certificate uses the formal name Alexander instead of Alasdair.

He is buried in the Kirkton churchyard at Lochalsh[4]
