Otto Theodore Leyde (baptised 7 June 1835 - 11 January 1897) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was Ernest Leyde (born c. 1810) from Wehlau. Wehlau in East Prussia is now known as Znamensk; in the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, between Poland and Lithuania.

His mother was Caroline Emilie Sophie Paczbel (born c. 1810) from Wehlau.

Otto Theodore Leyde was born in Wehlau.

He was baptised on 7 June 1835.

He moved to Edinburgh in 1851 and became a naturalised British subject in 1881.

He married Charlotte Elizabeth Smith (c. 1848 - 5 November 1938) from Tasmania. They married on 28 March 1865 in Alvah parish, Banff.

Art

He exhibited at the RSA from 1858.

He became the librarian of the RSA.[3]

Death

He died on 11 January 1897 in Edinburgh. His usual address was 17 St. Bernard's Crescent.[4]

His estate was valued at £2096, 18 shillings and 7 pence with an additional £69 and 4 shillings added later.[5]

his funeral was on 14 January 1897 at Warriston cemetery.[6]
