Janet Johnston (8 September 1830 - 12 June 1905) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life
[edit]Her father was James Johnston (c. 1771 - 18 September 1857), a tobacco manufacturer from Lasswade. He employed 6 men and 20 boys to do this.
Her mother was Helen Scott (c. 1792 - 31 October 1856) from Bo'ness, West Lothian. James and Helen married on 22 February 1825 in Bo'ness. They had 8 children.
Janet Johnston was born on 8 September 1830 in Edinburgh. She was well off because of her father's business and throughout the census reports was an annuitant or living on private means.

[edit]She died on 12 June 1905 in Colinton, Edinburgh.[6] She is buried in New Calton cemetery.[7]
