Jet Jardine (22 October 1881 - 18 November 1964) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]
Life
[edit]Her father was Charles Kennedy Jardine (1 October 1848 - 5 May 1902) from Maybole in Ayrshire. He became a printer. He worked for the British Government in British Guiana, now Guyana. He was the proprietor of the Demerera Daily Chronicle newspaper. On his death his estate was valued at £5953, 6 shillings and 8 pence.
Her mother was Bridget Hannigan Semple (27 November 1851 - 27 May 1920) from Glasgow. Charles and Bridget married on 11 February 1875 in Georgetown, Demerara-Mahaica, British Guinea, now Guyana. Altogether Charles and Bridget had 5 children.
Bridget Semple Jardine, known as Jet, was born in Rhu, near Helensburgh, Argyll on 22 October 1881. She had a twin sister Mary Newman Jack Jardine born on the same day.
Their sister Aeta Jardine also became an artist. Both Jet and Aeta stayed together throughout their life.
