James Greenlees (1 March 1841 - 8 March 1888) was a Scottish painter.
Life
[edit]His father was Robert Greenlees (1820 - 1896), an artist. He was head of the Glasgow School of Art before Francis Henry Newbery. His mother was Ann Anderson (born c. 1817). They married on 28 June 1839 in Glasgow.
James Greenlees was born on 1 March 1841 in 193 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. An artistic family his sisters Marion Greenlees and Georgina Greenlees also became artists.
He married Helen McKenzie (born c. 1843) on 27 December 1871 in Dunblane.

Death
[edit]He died on 8 March 1888 at 359 Dumbarton Road. The death certificate states that Greenlees died of a spinal paralysis.
